Feeling Stuck with Anxiety, Depression or Pain?

Attachment and Experiential Therapy will help you access, identify and process the negatively charged core emotions that have been leaving you feeling stuck with anxiety, depression, pain, relationship issues and other difficult problems. Evidence-based attachment and experiential therapies use trauma focused and emotional focused methods that will help you realize effective and life affirming change. These methods are different than more commonly used cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) "top-down" techniques. When the core issue is not addressed, people can feel as if CBT is requiring them to "manage" stress and "control" anger rather than addressing the root cause.

As a attachment and experiential therapist, I like to use a "bottom-up" approach that helps you access the non-verbal emotional centers of your brain to identify core issues. Once you are able to access and identify feelings (rather than just intellectualize about them), you will be able to truly process and resolve them. When core feelings are addressed and cease to be "highly charged", CBT approaches are also highly useful. During our consultation meeting, a plan that is customized to meet your needs will be discussed and developed.

While we can't change the memory of difficult past situations, we can work to help you reduce the painful emotional charges assigned to them. You will gain cognitive complexity; i.e you will be on the path to becoming truly wise. By applying complementary therapy approaches and techniques, we will unearth long-standing behavior patterns or negative perceptions that may be holding you back from experiencing a more fulfilling and meaningful life.

The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP)

This is a non-invasive listening therapy for better nervous system regulation.

  •  Evidence-based therapeutic tool
  • Designed to reset the nervous system and return it to safety.
  • Designed to work with other therapeutic approaches and modalities.
  • The SSP features specially filtered music that stimulates your Vagus nerve.
  • Based on polyvagal theory of Dr. Stephen Porges.
  • Suitable for children and adults
  •  Demonstrated benefits for individuals with trauma, anxiety, sensory processing differences, and much more.

Safety

The Safe and Sound Protocol is considered to be non-invasive therapy. With that said, it may not be tolerated well by people who have medical complexities, tinnitus, hearing difficulties, psychosis and severe mood dysregulation. The therapist will be able to assess your appropriateness for the program.

Side Effects

Every person responds differently to the listening program.  When symptoms due occur, they are usually temporary and mild; these may include headaches, feeling flush, inner ear tension, muscle tension, stomach upset and other somatic manifestations of distress.

Physical discomfort during the listening program is an indication of hyper-arousal and is usually remedied by pausing the program and conducting grounding and breathing exercises.  As the program progresses, people find that their distress symptoms are no longer present and they are able to feel enjoyment and calm while listening to the music.

What to Expect

Resetting your autonomic nervous system will help you become more responsive and less reactive. You will be better able to engage in talk therapy and create the positive life changes you need and want.

The program consists of 5 total listening hours, however, the rate of listening varies with the individual. Some people may need to start slowly (to be collaboratively determined by client and therapist via appropriate assessments). There is no need to rush through the program, since "less is more" in many cases.

If you're looking for extra support and guidance through a challenging situation or you're just ready to move in a new direction in your life, I look forward to working with you to achieve your goals.
